Periodontal Treatment

In the unfortunate event you're diagnosed with periodontal disease, and infection that causes swollen inflamed gums, bone loss, loose teeth and possibly tooth loss, our Dental Hygienist can provide you with a very effective Periodontal Therapy. Therapy is designed to actively treat the infection with the goal of disease remission in mind. Each therapeutic appointment may include:

  • Anesthetic (freezing) without needles to keep you comfortable.
  • Root debridement to remove the hard and soft toxins from the root surface all way down to the bottom of the pocket.
  • Laser Therapy when appropriate to decontaminate the pocket and promote healing by initiating bio-stimulation.
  • Oral irrigation with a prescription medication to promote healing, reduce bacteria re-growth and assist with post-operative discomfort. Sometimes placement of the highly effective Arestin ™, which is a time release medicine that acts to try to prevent the breakdown of the collagen in the gums during disease periods, can be placed too.
  • Co-therapy (home care) instruction because what you do it at home on a daily basis may reduce the number of therapy visits you need. This will include recommendation of products to help fight disease and maintain disease free status.
  • Monitoring your healing to ensure you are getting the best results possible from therapy.
  • Although periodontal disease may fluctuate between chronic and acute and may periodically need to be retreated, our goal is to help you maintain disease remission for as long as possible by closely monitoring your health at each subsequent visit.
Arestin Information

You may have heard about gum disease, also known as "periodontitis" or "periodontal disease." Maybe a dental professional or hygienist recently told you that you have this infection.
But do you really know the difference between periodontal disease and other types of complications that can affect your mouth, such as gingivitis? Do you know why it's so important to treat periodontal disease-and why brushing and flossing alone won't do the trick? Most importantly, did you know that periodontal disease is today's #1 cause of tooth loss among American adults? Or that, although a causal relationship between periodontal disease and an elevated risk for systemic events has not been established, recent data suggest a possible association between periodontal disease and other health issues including cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and preterm low birth-weight babies?
Fight infection right where it starts

ARESTIN® (minocycline hydrochloride) Microspheres, 1 mg is an effective antibiotic treatment that comes in powder form. This powder is placed inside infected periodontal pockets just after the dental professional finishes the scaling and root planing (SRP) procedure.
