Ashley graduated with honors from Pennsylvania College of Technology. She knew she wanted to be a Dental Hygienist at a young age due to a negative dental experience. Her #1 goal is to make sure each patient has an amazing visit. Ashley LOVES being a hygienist. It is her absolute passion to help each person reach their maximum oral health. She has two amazing sons that her life revolves around in addition to dental hygiene, basketball & football! Her family also has a funny and snuggly English Bulldog named Ruger! In her spare time, she loves to read and play board games with her sons.
Dentistry has come a long way in the past few decades, and one way to see those changes is with safe mercury removal. Fillings made from metal have been found to contain less than healthy components, notably mercury. In order to safely remove those fillings and pave the way for new, safe porcelain fillings, proper procedures are followed to reduce the number of mercury particles that the patient and the staff are exposed to for the best possible outcome.
When metal fillings are removed, it isn’t only the patient and the dental staff that needs protection. It is also important to protect the environment. In our office, we use procedures and protocols to limit the amount of mercury that fits its way into the sewer system. Special filters are used on the equipment to collect as many minuscule particles of mercury as possible.
To further ensure the safety of our patients, we also use charcoal rinses during the removal process. This step further reduces the level of mercury and other harmful metals found in the metal fillings and leads to fewer incidences of illness and other complications.
Full Body Barriers
In our office, we continue our safety goal by providing patients and staff with full-body barriers. This practice not only protects everyone from bodily fluids, but also from ingesting or inhaling mercury when metal fillings are removed. Eyewear, gloves, proper damming of the patient’s face, and protective clothing are just a few of the precautions we take to ensure your safety while we complete the work necessary for oral, and overall, good health.

With early detection and timely treatment, deaths from oral cancer could be dramatically reduced. The five-year survival rate for those with localized disease is 76 percent compared with only 19 percent for those whose cancer has spread to other parts of the body. Early detection of oral cancer is often possible. Tissue changes in the mouth that might signal the beginnings of cancer often can be seen and felt easy. Regular dental checkups, which include an examination of the entire mouth, are essential in the early detection of both cancerous and precancerous conditions. A person may have a dangerous oral lesion and not be aware of it.
Oral Cancer occurs more often in those who use tobacco in any form including cigarettes, chewing tobacco, pipes, and cigars; or those who consume large amounts of alcohol. But oral cancer can and does develop in people of all ages, races, and lifestyle habits. Over 25% of oral cancers occur in people who do not smoke and who only drink alcohol socially. An oral lesion may be a persistent sore of irritation, a small, flat, red or white patch, or a growth, lump, thickening, rough spot, crust, or irritated area. It is often painless, and you may not be aware of it. Because many oral lesions are flat, very small, or in an area of your mouth that you cannot see, they often only can be detected during an oral examination by your dentist.
As one of the most conservative cosmetic dentistry treatments around, cosmetic dental bonding requires little to no prepping and preserves most of the natural tooth structure. And it’s fast, too! Dental bonding usually takes just one visit to complete.
In our office, we use practices and procedures to take care of your dental needs in the safest, most natural way possible. Take a look at how we safeguard our patients’ overall health.
In the past, the use of metal for fillings and other appliances seemed like a good idea. It was easily obtainable, convenient, and durable. Or so it was thought. It turns out metal used in dentistry shrinks and expands when exposed to varying temperatures. Ultimately, that meant a poorly fitted filling.
With metal-free dentistry, patients can expect increased strength, with the porcelain fillings lasting much longer, even when used on the hard-working molars. Additionally, porcelain fillings also are ideal for restoration, as the material comes close to the strength and durability of the original tooth material. Finally, patients with metal-free dental work enjoy a lower price for porcelain filling.
It doesn’t matter the origin of your dental fear, what does matter is that it is real. And if you don’t feel comfortable with your dentist you won’t go until the pain is unbearable. We welcome fearful patients in our office and we understand what they are going through. We have been trained in oral conscious sedation and other techniques to help those patients overcome their fear and thus avoid the pain and embarrassment of a mouth that has gone unrepaired.
Years ago, smile makeovers involved multiple dental treatments over a period of several months. That’s no longer the case, thanks to porcelain veneers. Porcelain veneers are ultra-thin shells made of translucent porcelain that can be bonded to your teeth for cosmetic purposes. Extremely versatile and durable, porcelain veneers are an excellent option whether you want a total smile makeover or need to cover a chipped tooth, mask a cracked tooth, or close gaps between your teeth. They require little to no prepping and can often be applied in just one dental visit!
One pause in breathing can even be up to 40 seconds. With sleep constantly interrupted, sleep apnea impacts the quality of life for a patient’s mood, sleepiness, and mood swings, and also can easily cause severe complications in overall health.
Luckily, there is a solution for people who suffer from sleep apnea. There is a customized appliance/mouth guard that dentists create for patients with sleep apnea that allows you to breathe naturally throughout the night. The mouth guard keeps the tongue in a certain position, allowing comfortable breathing and the airways unobstructed. The apnea mouth guard also helps to eliminate snoring.
TMJ treatment from a dentist can relieve the discomfort. Although TMJ treatment varies from patient to patient, it typically involves one or several procedures, including the use of an orthotic splint, enamel reshaping, dental crowns, dental braces, or night guards. The goal of TMJ treatment is to stabilize your bite so that your teeth, jaw muscles, and jaw joints work properly together without strain – and without pain!
