The SureSmile aligners process

Although SureSmile has limitations, it can correct almost every orthodontic issue possible with metal braces. Dr. Skovron can use SureSmile to fix spacing, alignment, overcrowding, and malocclusions. Whatever the orthodontic problem, here’s the process you can expect. 

1. Consultation: The journey begins with a consultation with Dr. Skovron. We’ll assess your teeth and bite, discuss your expectations, and determine if SureSmile aligners suit you. 
2. Impressions: We’ll take digital impressions of your teeth with a small, wand-like device. The impressions allow us to create a 3D model of your smile to create a personalized treatment plan. The dentist uses advanced software to predict when and how your teeth will move at each treatment stage. This eliminates unpleasant surprises because you and your dentist will know what to expect throughout the treatment.
3. Customized aligner fabrication: The SureSmile dental lab will fabricate your aligners based on your digital treatment plan. Each aligner is made to match the exact specifications of your teeth. You’ll wear each aligner for a specific period (usually two weeks) before moving to the next in line. Although removable, SureSmile aligners must be worn for at least 22 hours. The dentist may provide a SureSmile VPro device that’s only worn for 5 minutes daily to maximize comfort and speed. 
4. Routine check-ups: Metal braces need regular dental visits to allow the dentist to adjust and tighten the wires. SureSmile aligners don’t have wires or brackets that need adjustments. You progress through treatment at home by graduating from one aligner to the next. However, you’ll need to visit us every 6-8 weeks to monitor your treatment progress and make any adjustments as needed.
5. Enjoying your new smile: Although timelines vary, many patients achieve intended results within 12-18 months. Whether addressing alignment, spacing, or bite problems, SureSmile aligners work “magically” to create aesthetically appealing results.
